The Bulb Appointed to Deliver Comprehensive Sustainability Programme for Invictus Games Birmingham 2027

This appointment will support the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027‘s ambitious vision to deliver meaningful environmental and social impact, while creating a sustainable approach for future host cities.

The 2.5-year consultancy, running until September 2027, will be led by Selina Donald and Meg Strahle, with advisory support from David Stubbs, former Head of Sustainability for London 2012. Working closely with the Invictus Games organising committee, we will embed environmental stewardship and social impact into every stage of planning and delivery.

Our Comprehensive Sustainability Approach

We will apply our award-winning methodology to develop a bespoke sustainability strategy for Invictus Games 2027. Our approach will go beyond carbon measurement to encompass environmental impact reduction, positive social outcomes, and sustainable practices that future Games can build upon.

Key deliverables include developing a sustainability strategy with SMART targets (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound), operational implementation plans across all functional areas, supporting the social impact plan, procurement consultancy, baseline measurements, stakeholder engagement, and a comprehensive sustainability and social impact report.

Detailed knowledge transfer from Birmingham’s sustainability journey will ensure lasting benefits for future Invictus Games hosts.

Selina Donald, Founder of The Bulb, and Trivandi’s Director of Sustainability said:

“We are excited to support Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 in setting new standards for sustainable major event delivery,”

“This project allows us to demonstrate how sustainability can be embedded into every aspect of event planning, while delivering meaningful impact for the environment, the West Midlands community, and most importantly, the wounded, injured, and sick service personnel who are at the heart of these Games.”

Aligning with Global Standards

Our sustainability programme will align with ISO 20121:2024 standards, UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the Invictus Games Foundation’s sustainability approach. By integrating sustainability, social impact, and accessibility throughout delivery, we will show how major events can be organised responsibly for the environment, local communities, and the WIS community.

Building on Proven Expertise

This appointment builds on The Bulb’s established track record in major event sustainability, including our recent work on Birmingham 2022, XXII Commonwealth Games and COP28 UAE.
